From the plant sale at Dawes Arboretum spring 2008, this is Pinus strobus ‘Yoda’. The accompanying tag described it thus:
“A dwarf, flat, globe-shaped evergreen, growing to 6′ tall and wide in 10 years. The growth rate is about 2″ per year. Fine-textured, light green needles are arranged in groups of 5, 2-5″ long. Young stems are gray to green, soft and flexible, while older wood becomes dark gray to brown and black. Use as a specimen or accent plant. Site in full sun in well-drained soil. Hardy to USDA Zone 3. Species native to e. North America.”
The individual tag for this exact tree said it was recieved “from: TDA Grounds CQ11 [D1996-0272.001] Orig. from Cedar Ridge Provenance: CGO How Recieved: SC D2006-0145”
We planted it in the new raised bed we created–plenty of sun and the drainage should be good, too.
